The Traveling has Stopped...for now

Back on the Road
My mini-road trip over a week ago was a good little trip. I went and saw my friends perform "The Disorientation of Butterflies" at FringeNYC. Which ended up winning the director, my friend, Alaska Reese Vance, an award for best Direction! Very happy and proud for her, and the team. :)

The next day I spent a day in the city doing things I'd never done before. Seeing "Ground Zero" (which is just a construction zone now as they build the One World Trade Center), Battery Park, the Statue of Liberty (just gazed at across the harbor), Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity, Dylan's Candy Bar. Then walked through Central Park and "You've Got Mail Land". It was one of the most fun days I've had all summer.

Then I drove to PA for a few days. I went back to Sight & Sound to see "Joseph" and take a back-stage tour. Let's just say I didn't walk away wishing I won't work there one day. :-)

Then I got to see my sister-in-law and brother who was "home" for 2 weeks on his R&R from serving in Afghanistan. We went to Hoboken and saw Carlos' Bakery (of Cake Boss fame) They were filming a promo spot, so the bakery was closed, but we were able to see Buddy himself through the window. :) We did some walking, and then went to the Melting Pot for cheese and chocolate. I've wanted to go ever since I've heard of it last year.... :)

All-in-all, a fun trip. But by the time I got to Maine, I was ready to be in one place for more than 10 days. I've lived out of a suitcase all summer.

Thankfully I've got at least 5 weeks where I'll be staying in one place.

What's Next
On Monday rehearsals start for my next show: "Titanic: The Fated Journey". I'm excited. It's a musical, and I get to be Swedish. This is the show that I wasn't going to audition for, and had decided not to, but couldn't shake the feeling that I should. So I stayed an extra day to audition. :)

We perform in PEI the end of September, and then in October we're doing a tour of the Maritimes. When I know specific dates and locations I'll let people know incase friends off-Island are able to make it. :)

I'm also excited to get to spend part of Fall on the Island. :) It's been four years since I've experienced a real Fall.

I'm ready to have a schedule and routine. Though, I do admit this week of "nothing" has been nice :)

Come November, I have no idea what I'll be doing. But. One day/week at a time. :)

Irene...

I'll update on my mini-road trip soon.

Tonight I wish to quickly blog about Irene.

4 years in Virginia Beach, and I never got to experience a real hurricane.

I was trying not to be bummed that I'm not in VA Beach for Irene (Disclaimer: I do miss VA Beach for more than just the current excitement....but I do love storms. :))

Anyway, I finally turned on the TV and watched news coverage of the impending hurricane. That might have been a mistake. (Secretly, we all know the mandate of the news to instill fear :)) And it worked.

Now I'm trying not to be afraid for my friends all along the east coast.

So. Stay safe, friends. :)

I wish I had witty/funny/pithy/brilliant advice and/or comments for you. But I don't (currently). So. This is what you get. :)

I look forward to reading/seeing updates from people on fb.

And enjoy. :)

I'll be praying :)

On the Road Again...

Tomorrow ends my vacation time. I've been on Prince Edward Island for the past 10 or so days. It's been pretty nice. Aside from venturing out of the house a few times to see friends and/or shows, I've mostly stayed in the house. Sleeping in, lazing around. Very relaxing. And I do enjoy my down-time. But too much down time isn't productive. :) Except for playing more than 500 games of Bubble Burst.

So now I'm hitting the road again. Only for a week or so. Back to NYC to see some friends as they perform in the Fringe Festival, and then meeting up with my brother and sister-in-law in PA/NJ.

I may do an audition or two. My plans aren't set in stone, so who knows what will come around. :)

Come September I start rehearsals for my next show. I'm looking forward to it. More on that later.

Now comes the rough time of year when everyone is returning to school. After 10 years of university and graduate work, it feels weird.

In a way it feels like a New Year. More than actual New Years. It's exciting...and scary. New things are ahead. Don't know what, when or how, but I know God's got a plan. Even though I forget that at times and worry about what lies ahead.

How did it get to be the middle of August already?

Currently...

Currently I'm:

  • Sitting on our front porch swing in Maine.
  • On my laptop
  • Watching the oncoming thunderstorm. Lighting, wind, thunder. Exciting.
  • Listening to Chris Tomlin's "Our God". The Deluxe Edition Song. Love the strings in it.
  • Swatting at mosquitos. They found me.
  • Thinking I'll end up back inside real soon.
  • Thankful. Peaceful. Content. Trusting that HIS will is best.
  • Nostalgic.
  • Noticing that the wind stopped. Rain's coming.
  • Planning on going to the Island this week.
  • Planning another road-trip. (not as epic). Stay tuned.
  • Thankful for my car.
  • Feeling ready to have solid plans for the next year. (Alas. Not for me to know yet.)
  • Still ok with not having solid plans. (it's a vicious cycle)
  • Still swatting at mosquitos.
  • Not wanting to go inside 'cause it's awesome out.
  • Conceding victory to the mosquitos. Time to go inside.
This has been your update. :)
